Very large correspondence, with some memoranda. Includes: A. Correspondence and papers concerning Redman's work, mainly in connection with large telescopes and their instrumentation in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. B. Documentation of important topics and events, such as: Isaac Newton Telescope project at Herstmonceux; Anglo-Australian Telescope project at Siding Springs, New South Wales; early developments in the Northern Hemisphere Observatory project; consultation on the European Southern Observatory; consultation of Mauna Kea Observatory, Hawaii. Born in Stroud, Gloucestershire, Redman was educated locally and at St. John's College, Cambridge, graduating in mathematics in 1926. Perhaps influenced by Arthur Eddington and F.J.M. Stratton in the same way as his close contemporary at Cambridge, R v d r Woolley (see classmark RGO 10), he decided to make his career in practical astronomy.
